1. What type of Covid test do I need to take to fly to a destination outside of Canada? Does Lilium perform this test?

The test we perform at Lilium is accepted for ALL international destinations. We are one of the only test centers in Canada where you can get both the correct test and the right type of certificate for international travel, including a stamp and QR code. The test we perform at Lilium automatically covers all of the following categories: PCR, RT-PCR, NAAT, molecular, and swab tests.

We have all the Canadian and Quebec licenses, certifications and accreditations required to perform Covid tests. We are also one of the only laboratories in Quebec to have obtained ISO 15189 international accreditation for our Covid test.

If your destination country has other specific requirements, please inform us by email before your appointment (for example, Hawaii requires a special document from us; while Japan requires a special form to be filled out and signed: please fill it out and email it to us before your appointment so that we can prepare it, then bring it with you to your appointment so that we can complete it and sign it).

We provide testing for everyone, regardless of citizenship or country of residence. We are also a preferred location for testing babies and young children due to our less invasive sample collection methods.

2. What is a Covid travel test certificate? What does the Lilium certificate include?

In addition to the correct test, many international destinations also require a signed Certificate with various requirements: the full name as it appears in the traveler's passport, the passport number that will be used for travel, the date of birth, the exact date and time the test was performed, the original test report, a stamp and a QR code that links to the original test report and the results from the lab that performed the test. Lilium's certificate includes all of these features.

3. What is the difference between PCR (RT-PCR, NAAT, molecular, swab tests) and an antigen test?

An antigen test is a quick but inaccurate test that gives many false positive and negative results. This means that it can give a positive result when you are actually negative, or a negative result when you are actually positive. Many experts estimate that it is only about 50% accurate. This is why most international destinations do not accept this test. There is also a high risk that you will test positive upon arrival in your destination country if you have had a false-negative antigen test, which means you may have to be quarantined in your destination country.

Many people wonder why antigenic tests are still performed by testing centers, since their accuracy is so low. The main reason is that most testing centers have limited PCR testing capabilities and PCR testing takes too long to perform. At Lilium, we are able to process PCR tests so quickly and on such a large scale that you can receive your test certificate on the same day, not much longer than an antigen test. As a result, Lilium is making PCR testing more widely and conveniently available. PCR tests can also be performed on oral and saliva samples, while all antigen tests require a nasal and nasopharyngeal sample.

4. When should I make an appointment for the test at Lilium?

Please note that there is always a small risk that your test will be positive or that the quality of your sample is not good on the first test, requiring a new sample to be tested (which we will do free of charge with results in less than 2 hours). Therefore, we strongly recommend that you come in for your test at least the day before your flight, to make sure you can get on the plane before you arrive at the airport.

We also recommend that you take your test close enough to your flight date so that in case your flight is delayed or rescheduled (cancelled), you minimize the chances that the test Certificate will fall outside its validity date. Airlines will usually inform passengers 2-3 days before the departure date if a flight will be cancelled, and we allow you to cancel or reschedule your booking for free. However, once a test is taken we are not responsible for what happens between you and the airlines (e.g., if your Certificate falls outside the validity date (or time) due to a flight being delayed, rescheduled or cancelled, this is not our fault; just like a hotel, car rental company or restaurant will not take responsibility if you have to stay an additional day because your flight got rescheduled). For this reason we recommend that you book your test for a date and time that gives you some flexibility in case your flight is delayed or rescheduled.

At this time, we only accept reservations booked online due to the overwhelming demand for our tests. This allows us to process your application prior to your arrival, so that we can complete your Covid test more quickly upon your arrival. You only need to pay for your test on site when you arrive for your appointment.

Most international destinations require you to take the test less than 72 hours before your flight, but many destinations require it less than 72 hours before arrival at your destination. Please check the requirements of the country you are visiting to determine when you should take your test (your airline or the embassy of the country you are visiting will provide you this information). For destinations with at least a 72 hour time window before departure, we recommend you take the test 24-48 hours before your flight, as explained above.

Examples on how to calculate a 72 hour time window before Departure:
- Mr. A. has a flight that departs at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday from Montreal to Paris. This means that Mr. A. must make an appointment for a scheduled test any time after 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
- Mr. B. has a flight that will depart on Thursday and arrive in Germany on Friday at 8:00 a.m. local time (which is 2:00 a.m. Montreal time). This means that Mr. B. must make an appointment for a scheduled test at any time after 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, i.e. at any time after 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday when Lilium opens.

5. How long does it take to receive my results after taking the Lilium test?

For our Laval location:
For appointments between 7:00 - 10:00 a.m., you will receive your results between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. the same day. For appointments between 12:00 - 3:00 p.m.,  you will usually receive your results between 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. the same day.

For our downtown Montreal location:
For appointments between 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.,  you will receive your results between 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. the same day. For appointments between 2:15 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., you will receive your results between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. the next-day.

All samples are processed at the same time, so it does not matter at what time your appointment is at (e.g. a sample collected at 12:00 p.m. will receive the results at the same time as a sample collected at 1:30 p.m., as all samples for each time range above will be processed at the same time).

Your Certificate and Test Report will be available there for 5 days after you took your test, after which they are deleted (the link to the Certificate and Test Report pages have a special security feature where they are generated by a random number generator with trillions of possible combinations, while still allowing you to share the link with others if needed over the 5 day period). We recommend that you print the Certificate and Test Report if you will travel.

6. How do I make an appointment for a test required for international travel at Lilium?

Be sure to enter your full name (including all middle names) exactly as it appears in your passport, and to correctly enter your passport number and date of birth. This information will go into your travel Certificate and is necessary for your certificate to be issued correctly. Any corrections that need to be made during your appointment may cause your appointment to take an additional 15 minutes.

7. How do I cancel or reschedule my test? What is the cancellation policy?

You may reschedule or cancel your appointment at any time prior to your appointment by using the links at the bottom of your appointment confirmation email. There is no penalty for doing so, but we ask that you reschedule or cancel your appointment as soon as you become aware of the change in your plans, so that the appointment slot can be assigned to another traveler.

8. How should I prepare for my Lilium test? Do I need to bring anything with me to the test?

You must bring your passport with you to your appointment.

Make sure you do not eat or drink anything (except water) at least 1 hour (preferably 2 hours) before your appointment. You should also not use any mouthwash (e.g. listerine) or drink any alcohol for at least 12 hours before your appointment. Otherwise your test may fail due to a low sample quality, requiring a re-test (each of our tests includes an internal control to test the sample quality, to be sure the sample is of adequate quality).

9. I was recently vaccinated. Or I tested positive 14 days ago. Will this affect my Lilium test results?

No, vaccination has no effect on the Lilium PCR tests.

Unlike many other PCR tests, the Lilium PCR test also does not give a false positive for several weeks after you were infected with SARS-CoV-2 and have already cleared it from your body. This means you will be able to get a Certificate with a negative test result sooner with the Lilium PCR test than with many other PCR tests.

10. Why does Lilium's PCR swab test + certificate cost only $99, while other labs charge two or three times more?

We are the only fully automated large-scale Covid testing laboratory in Canada. We are organized to provide laboratory testing to other Covid testing centers. With a capacity of up to 100,000 tests per day, we represent over 20% of all Covid testing capacity in Canada. We have now set up our own sample collection center to sell tests directly to the consumer, giving consumers like you access to wholesale pricing and direct turnaround of results.
